I love the world and think it is only really worth leaving it behind, for something beyond our earthly experience. This is why I am particularly interested in making virtual realities that cannot be experienced in real life: Telling stories that would not be possible to convey in other mediums or that blow your mind for artistic or aesthetic reasons; opening a door for a brief moment to fantastic new worlds or perspectives.
Third Eye VR is my (Dorothea Gibbs’) vision of VR, showcasing the projects that I have produced and directed and describing my references and interests. I first came to VR making a film (Natural Reality 2:1) for an art exhibition called Human Nature in 2015, for which I was nominated for the Sheffield Doc/Fest ARTE Interactive award. I have worked on many creative VR projects since and I am now on the BAFTA VR advisory committee. I recently made a series for Google Daydream and Surround Vision called The Female Planet and the BBC’s first VR Talk Show No Small Talk. I am currently working on a project called VR Duet, making virtual singing experiences. I run most of my work through my digital production company Third Channel.
